  • 2012 Grand Prix Insights - Track Safety
    Uploads by pitpassf1 | 18 May 2012 | 10:17am GMT

Fifty years ago people, photographers, officials and even fans, stood right beside the track, something which would be unthinkable today. "Track safety has come a long way in recent years," says Nico Rosberg. "There have been improvements in circuit layout, run-off areas and even safety barriers. And one very important contribution has been the advice that we as F1 drivers, have been able to offer on that." "Grand Prix venues must now meet increasingly high track safety requirements. And that has had a major influence on the number of accidents and their severity. Run-off zones are carefully placed around the circuit. They may look like empty patches of tarmac beside the track - but they're designed to decelerate a car when it's out-of-control, and prevent a collision with track walls or barriers."

  • 2012 Grand Prix Insights - Fitness
    Uploads by pitpassf1 | 5 Apr 2012 | 12:10pm GMT

"A few decades ago, drivers' fitness levels were not as high," says Nico Rosberg. "Today all of us have a strict and a very demanding fitness programme. An F1 race is as exhausting as running a marathon - and even worse when the cockpit gets hot. "Without training I would be so exhausted during a race it could be dangerous - both because of physical exhaustion and also mental fatigue. And just like when you're on the road, if you're exhausted and you can't think straight, you shouldn't be there."
